Phoenix—During a wild weekend of NHRA top-team test
sessions at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix, Los
Angeles-based American Racing Custom Wheels formally tested
and released the American Racing Custom Wheels Pro Line Series
of professional drag racing wheels. The Top Fuel Teams of
Paul Romine (Car Quest) and David Baca (Baca & Henkelman
Racing) pushed American Racing Custom Wheels newest race product,
the TrakStar, to speeds in excess of 300 miles per hour. The
NHRA Test Sessions at Firebird attracted top race teams, race
component manufacturers, chassis builders, drivers and enthusiasts,
for a weekend of dialing in and supertuning the fastest motorcars
in the world.
Known for its early roots in the development of magnesium
drag racing wheels, American Racing Custom Wheels Equipment,
Inc. was founded in 1956 in San Francisco by drag racing innovator
Romeo Palamides. Over the years American Racing Custom Wheels
has grown, manufacturing both original equipment wheels for
major auto manufacturers and aftermarket custom wheels and
rims that are sold in over thirty countries. “We’ve
never forgotten our roots, the heart and soul of this company
is in racing wheels”, stated Bob Hange, company president,
“the American Racing Custom Wheels Pro Line is based
upon the very factors that made our early drag wheels competitive-high
strength-to-weight ratios, concentricity, technical correctness,
performance, styling, safety and of course, speed”.
The Trakstar (AR480), first in the American Racing Custom
Wheels Pro Series lineup, is a sleek, modern five-spoke design
capable of handling the speeds, which characterize modern
drag racing. The Trakstar has been S.F.I. approved and will
be distributed byAmerican Racing Custom Wheels Pro Line Distributors
and leading chassis builders. TrakStar rear drive wheels are
offered in 16x16” bead lock models, with additional
sizes slated for release.
With the current popularity of original dragster restoration,
retro looks and hot rod reunions, American Racing Custom Wheels
announced the release of the Qualifier, a ten-spoke retro-look
17” (AR481) spindle-mounted front modeled from its famous
early-60’s twelve-spoke magnesium wheel. “While
drag racing has moved from dry lake beds and deserted airport
runways, the spirit of drag racing is in the freedom of the
old school movement, that’s why we created a retro-look,
high-tech SFI approved front”, commented Scott Hughes,
American Racing Motorsports Manager.
