BBS alloy wheels. In a comparison test of eight alloy wheels
conducted by "auto motor und sport" magazine and
published in issue no. 8 on April 3, 2002, the BBS RZ wheel
emerged as the hands-down winner. In all test categories,
including corrosion resistance, durability, and shock resistance,
the exceptionally lightweight high-tech alloy wheel outdistanced
its competitors. Based on this performance, the alloy wheel
was the only alloy wheel to receive a "highly recommended"
quality rating from "auto motor und sport."
According to Klaus Baumgartner, Director of Marketing and
Design at BBS Wheels, "We are extremely proud of this
high rating. 'auto motor und sport' is well-known for its
high testing standards. The fact that our wheel took first
place in all categories shows that our investments in R&D
are on the right track."
For this comprehensive comparison of alloy wheels, "auto
motor und sport" tested eight different types of 8x17-inch
wheels produced by different manufacturers. The popular magazine
evaluated the alloy wheels based on four categories: resistance
to corrosion, material durability, resistance to shock and
impact, and production precision. In their final summary,
the testing team was unanimous: "The BBS wheel passed
all tests with flying colours and received top marks in all
categories making it the undisputed leader of the pack."
When it came to the individual categories, the experts from
"auto motor und sport” were impressed by the qualities
of the high-tech BBS alloy wheel. Following the corrosion
test they wrote, "After submerging the alloy wheels in
a copper chloride/acetic acid solution for 240 hours, the
BBS alloy wheel was the only one that was still in good shape
and fulfilled the OEM requirements."
The BBS alloy wheel also passed the durability test in which
the alloy wheels are subjected to two million load shifts.
The same holds true for the stability test here a 500-kilogram
weight is dropped on the wheels. According to the testing
team, "...the lighter BBS alloy wheel passed this test,
which simulates the effects of driving over a deep pothole,
...with above-average marks." The BBS rim also performed
remarkably well in the production precision test, which measures
out-of-round and lateral run-out while taking into account
the weight of the alloy wheel. Despite its extremely low weight
of under 10 kilos, the RZ alloy wheel from BBS ranked highest
among the test candidates in terms of the ratio of wheel load
to net wheel weight.
The performance of the aftermarket RZ wheel rim is a result
of years of BBS experience in professional racing where the
right combination of low alloy wheel weight and high tensile
strength is a decisive factor in the race for pole position.
It's no wonder that Michael Schumacher relies on high-quality
BBS alloy wheels: all four of his Formula One world championship
titles were won with BBS.
